Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation and Community Infrastructure in-collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) has submitted a proposal for a regional project on “Strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka and India to increase impacts of climate change” to the Adaptation Fund and it has been approved by the Adaptation Fund Board.
The project’s goal is to strengthen the climate change adaptive capacity and food security of vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka’s dry zone and India’s eastern coastal states, utilizing a regional, integrated approach. The project will enable vulnerable groups to use Last Mile Climate Services (LMCS), to plan and implement climate resilient adaptation measures which are best suited for different livelihoods and enhance linkages to existing financial services.
The project period is five years and the total financial grant of USD 13,995,524 has been allocated between the two countries. In Sri Lanka, the project will be implemented in Monaragala, Trincomalee, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts.
