The National Policy on Biosafety
The National Policy on Biosafety was prepared to renew the commitment of the government to ensure adequate levels of protection in the safe use of modern biotechnology based on the precautionary principle, within the overall framework of sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Policy in 2005.
The National Policy on Policy on Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in Sri Lanka, Strategies and Action Plan
The importance of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) is recognized as a major threat to the natural and agro-ecosystems of Sri Lanka affecting its biological diversity & food security. Accordingly The National Policy on Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in Sri Lanka, Strategies and Action Plan for required as the guiding light that shows the path to achieve the vision and the long-term goals envisaged by state and other stakeholder organizations in minimizing the risk of IAS across of IAS sectors in Sri Lanka.
The main objective is to establish a national policy, which leads to formulate an appropriate legal framework and implemented through an effective and effective and efficient institutional coordination mechanism that prevents, detects, responds to, and manage the risks of IAS to the economy, environment and society.
The policy and the Strategies & Action Plan for it’s Implementation has been approved by the cabinet of Ministers on March 2016.
National Policy on Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Mangrove Ecosystems in Sri Lanka
The National Policy for conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Mangrove Ecosystems in Sri Lanka prepared and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in January 2020.
National Policy on Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Mangrove Ecosystems in Sri Lanka is consists of 4 policy goals and 19 statements with six strategies. The policy will direct and strengthen the regulations, goals, objectives, strategies, actions and roles of all government and non-governmental organizations working directly or indirectly on mangrove ecosystems and will have applicable provisions in this policy. The national policy for conservation and sustainable utilization of mangrove ecosystems in Sri Lanka is to be adopted by all agencies that have a stake in mangrove ecosystems both in already protected mangrove habitats and mangroves outside protected areas.
