By the Extraordinary Gazette No.2403/53 dated 27.09.2024 the Departments of Wildlife Conservation, Forest Conservation and National Zoological Gardens as well as the State Timber Corporation which were the under then Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation, were Included under the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation and Community Infrastructure.
Then by the Extraordinary Gazette No.2412/08 dated 25.11.2024, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Forest Conservation, National Zoological Gardens and the State Timber Corporation were included under the Division of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation of Ministry of Environment.
The State Timber Corporation is a state owned business organization which was established by the Gazette No. 14796 of 04.04.1968.
The business activities of the State Timber Corporation include the extraction of timber from government forest plantation, the sale of timber logs and sawn timber, Operating of timber seasoning and preservation plants, the manufacture and sale of furniture, as well as the sale of preserved timber sleepers and transmission poles. It is also an organization that offers services such as identifying local and imported timber species through sample testing and issuing timber quality certificates.
