About Us

The Ministry of Environment of Sri Lanka remains committed for the management of the environment and natural resources of the country, maintaining the equilibrium between the trends in rapid economic development and use of natural resource base.

Social and economic behavior of the increasing human population has put a major threat in achieving these objectives. The Ministry has framed key policies for adoption in management of environment and natural resources of the country. These policies are implemented with the participation of stakeholders including government, agencies, NGO's and communities.

Objective of Mass Laboratory

Objectives of the mass laboratory is to maintain & disseminate the national standards of mass. Mass laboratory provides calibration services to facilitate Trade, Industry, health and environmental protection. The Quality of calibration result are assured by participation of Inter - laboratory comparisons.

Time & Frequency Laboratory

  1. Time and Frequency Standard system : Cs Primary frequency standard, Rubidium Atomic standard, Time interval counter with rubidium oscillator

  2. Time dissemination system : NTP time server stratum 1 and 2, web server for time display

  3. Time transfer system : GNSS receiver, Choke ring antenna

  4. Time and Frequency calibration system : Signal Generator, Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Timer and Stopwatch calibration

Current Activities of Time and Frequency Laboratory

  1. Maintaining and disseminating Sri Lanka Standard Time (Regulation : Sri Lanka Standard Time Regulation 2011)

  2. Maintaining National standard for frequency

  3. Calibration services to industry and calibration  testing and medical laboratories (stopwatches, timers, rpm meters, centrifuges, function generators, oscilloscopes, other timing and time interval measuring instrument used in government used in government authorities and industry)
